Founder
Bruce Karim (Abdul Karim Katungi)
Founder of Rise & Change
Rise & Change was founded by multidisciplinary visual artist Bruce Karim(Abdul Karim Katungi), Born in Uganda and now based in Sweden, His work moves between painting, movement and participatory art practices. His artistic journey has always been closely connected to community, Identity and the power of creative expression.
Through Rise & Change, Bruce brings together his artistic practice and his commitment to social impact, creating spaces where young people can explore creativity, build confidence and connect with others through art, movement and storytelling. The organisation grew out of real encounters with young people in local communities and a belief that culture and creativity can be powerful tools for empowerment, belonging and positive change..
Our Work
Art & Exhibitions
We create and curate exhibitions that highlight young artists, community stories and creative voices. Our exhibitions are spaces for dialogue, visibility and shared experience, often developed together with participants.
Dance & Movement
Through dance and movement-based sessions, we support physical expression, confidence and collective energy. Dance is used both as an artistic practice and as a way to build connection and wellbeing.
Workshops, Storytelling & Creative Labs
We run hands-on workshops and creative labs in art, storytelling and mixed media. These spaces encourage experimentation, collaboration and learning through doing.
Youth, Family & Community Work
Our work includes after-school activities, holiday initiatives and community-based projects that bring together young people, families and local actors in inclusive cultural spaces.
Our work grows out of real needs and local contexts, and is shaped together with the people who take part.

How We Work
We work through participatory and creative methods that encourage expression, collaboration and confidence. Our activities are schaped together with participants and communities, allowing young people to explore their creativity while building confidence and meaningful connections with others.
We believe that art and movement can open spaces for dialogue, reflection and growth, creating opportunities for young voices to be seen and heard.
Our Impact
At Rise & Change, we focus on creating real and lasting impact in the lives of children and young people through creativity.
During our after-school collaboration in spring 2026 with Sollentuna bibliotek, we engaged over 50+ children in hands-on creative workshops. The sessions were open and accessible, allowing participants to drop in, explore, and create freely in a safe and welcoming environment.
Through painting, colour, and creative expression, the children were encouraged to take space, share ideas, and build confidence in themselves. Many of the participants returned across multiple sessions, showing both interest and a growing sense of belonging.
Our work is not only about teaching art, but about creating spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and valued. For some, it is their first time being introduced to creative expression in this way.
We collaborate with schools, libraries, and local community spaces to reach children who benefit most from inclusive and supportive environments. Our approach is flexible, responsive, and rooted in the needs of the community.
The impact goes beyond the artwork created. It is reflected in increased confidence, social connection, and the courage to express thoughts and emotions. These are small but important steps that can have a long-term effect on how young people see themselves and their place in the world.
We continue to build on these experiences, with the goal of expanding our reach and creating more accessible creative spaces for children and young people across different communities.
